About Us

Welcome to our Critter Camp blog.
Windsor Elementary 4th Grade and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa are partnering to create "Critter Camp". The 4th grade classrooms will be caring for small animals from the ARL that are in need of foster care until they are ready for adoption. This blog will share about our foster critters' progress and their search for their forever home.

We are 12 Days Old!

Hope's baby bunnies are 12 days old today!  These cute little bundles of fur are getting bigger, and have just started to open their eyes.  We even had one little bunny flop itself over the edge of the nest box and do some exploring in the great big world of the kennel.  After this happened we realized we needed to make some nest adjustments because it couldn't get back in to snuggle. After some creative thinking we now have a great setup!  While we were checking and moving the babies, Mrs. Heemskerk spent some quality time with Hope making friends.  Hope loves her veggies and her berry yogurt treats!

Furby Update

Furby's new family sent us the following email and pictures.  Looks like a perfect match!

Well Furby made it to her new home safe and sound in the blowing snow. We decided to keep the name you named her, it seems to fit her well. We spent Saturday afternoon after we brought her home fixing up an area like what was in your classroom as she looked so happy living there. We also brushed her fur for a while and put bows in her hair which is so cute. Furby hopped around a lot and explored her new home. She met her "brother" Frank, who is a tan pug with a black face. It's funny because Furby has tan colors with a dark nose and face, just like her brother, Frank....they seem to be getting along well. She must have had a busy day because she fell asleep in my arms that night while I was watching TV. She really likes to cuddle. Thank you so much for taking care of Furby, I can tell she had lots of great kids taking care of her. Attached is some pictures we took when we got her settled in. We will keep in touch this year to keep you updated on how Furby is doing.

Thanks again for taking such great care of Furby, you really have a great teacher helping take care of pets with you.

Introducing Sprite and Allie!

Mr. Israel's class welcomed their new Critter Campers on Friday.  Stanna and Cindy from the ARL brought 2 parakeets and taught Mr. I's class all about how to take care of them.  The students have selected Sprite for the green male parakeet, and Allie for the white and blue female.  The two birds settled in with a calm weekend and are chirping and ready for the kids to return today!

Furby's Forever Family!!!

Our beautiful bunny Furby found her forever home today. Her new family fell in love with her and drove 2 hours to come get her. She was smitten with them from the moment they met. She even hopped right into the daughter's lap. It was a match made in heaven!
